As I continue painting this commission I keep thinking about Isabel Samarez and wonder how she started and what her first paintings looked like. She has incredible attention to detail and a keen sense of applying pop culture to mythic tales similar to the fairytale poems by Anne Sexton, who I also love. I own this painting (top) as a puzzle but man the real thing (bottom) looks pretty damn good.
